MUWADDAH
It is important to know and remember that the fundamental belief, the spirit, and to acknowledge that the roots of Shiaism are in Muwaddah and devotion. Imam Jafar-e-Sadiq sws says in Usool-e-kafi that, ‘religion is nothing except for Muwaddah and Enmity’. Meaning, having Muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws and hatred for their enem
ies is the real Religion. Rest is all an expression of this muwaddah and hatred. Prophet Muahammadsaww, after preaching Islam to the world, asked for nothing but the Muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws in return. Thus it is stated in the Quran, that:
‘O Prophetsaww! Say that you do not demand for anything in return of your preaching, but the muwaddah for Qurba {meaning Hazrat Fatima Zehrasws and Ahlay Kisa}’
Hence it has been proven again that to have ‘muwaddah’ for Ahlul baiytsws is the essence of religion and nothing holds any importance unless one has muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws in his heart. In reality, this entire universe is created for this muwaddah and its ending would also be for muwaddah. The reason behind the creation of the world and the heavens is highlighted from this Hadith-e-Qudsi;
‘I had been a hidden treasure. The love for being explored rose in me and thus, I created this universe.’
Similarly, it is stated at another point, that:
‘O Muhammad’s Ahlul baiyt! I have created this universe in your Muwaddah. I would not have created it if you were not there.’
So here it is clear that the sole reason behind the creation of this universe in the muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws. From here we clearly understood the starting and the creation, and now we may discuss about the ending, i.e. heaven and hell.
Ameer-ul-Momineen Hazrat Alisws says that, ‘I would stand at the door of hell and would tell to seize those who were my enemies in the world and to let go those who had muwaddah for me.’ Hence the decision for hell and heaven is also based on the muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws and so is our beginning and our end and those who would go astray from the path which leads to the muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws will have to face the wrath of Allah.
Now that we know that our creation and our end is all for the muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws, so its our prime responsibility to lead our life only for the muwaddah for themsws. We should be friends with those who have muwaddah for Ahlul baiytsws (a.s.) and hold animosity against those who have hatred for themsws.
Hazrat Alisws says in the book Muani Al Akhbar, ‘befriend those who are my friends even if they had killed your father and brother, and hold enmity against those who are my enemies even if they are your father and brother.’
